The Challenge: Traditional shipment tracking often relies on limited data points like GPS, leading to delays, inaccuracies, and a fragmented view of the supply chain. Managing documentation and resolving discrepancies adds another layer of complexity, often handled through disconnected systems, causing costly errors and operational friction.
The Vision: Beyond GPS: I conceptualized and designed Auba, a dashboard leveraging Artificial Intelligence to provide a truly comprehensive and proactive view of shipments. Instead of solely relying on GPS, the system integrates and synthesizes data from a diverse range of unconventional sources – including public cameras, online shipping updates, satellite imagery, and even relevant social media signals – to create a richer, more accurate real-time picture of cargo status and location.
My Solution & Design Approach: As Lead Product Designer, I focused on translating this complex, AI-driven data stream into an intuitive and actionable interface. The design prioritizes:
Immediate Context: A global overview upon entry, featuring key financial indicators, a geographic visualization of container distribution, and at-a-glance global status percentages (In Route, Customs, Loading, etc.).Actionable Insights: A central live feed allows users to quickly scan active shipments, while performance summaries provide trend analysis.
Deep Dive & Problem Resolution: Selecting a shipment reveals a detailed view including historical timelines, key dates, and crucially, proactive issue flagging. The system uses AI to identify potential problems like missing documentation (e.g., "Missing Documentation: Bill of Lading" highlighted in the UI).
Integrated Workflow: A dedicated "Documents" section within the detail view allows users to directly manage relevant files (invoices, import letters, BOLs) associated with the shipment, streamlining the process of resolving the flagged discrepancies without leaving the platform.
Key Features:
Multi-Source AI Tracking: Aggregates data from cameras, web, satellite, social media, and traditional sources for unparalleled accuracy.
Unified Dashboard: Consolidates global status, live cargo lists, financial summaries, and detailed views.
Proactive Discrepancy Alerts: AI identifies and highlights critical issues like missing documents directly within the shipment details.
Integrated Document Management: Enables seamless uploading, viewing, and management of shipment-related documents to resolve issues efficiently.
Design Philosophy: This particular design iteration represents my original vision for the product, emphasizing immediate visibility into potential roadblocks and integrating discrepancy management directly into the tracking workflow. The goal was to empower users to move from monitoring to problem-solving within a single interface, creating a truly proactive operational tool.
